An extraordinary set of six Minton-Spidell "Dauphine" upholstered dining chairs hand-crafted in the French Provincial, or Louis XIII taste, consisting … Read more An extraordinary set of six Minton-Spidell "Dauphine" upholstered dining chairs hand-crafted in the French Provincial, or Louis XIII taste, consisting of five side chairs and one host armchair. Each chair features a tall, framed, upholstered back with a gracefully humped crest rail, along with a broad upholstered seat. The distinctive walnut frames are finished in a natural warm honey tone with a deliberate intentionally antiqued character to mimic a 17th century Baroque design found in grand chateaus and later provincial homes in France. An elaborate curvilinear Os de Mouton leg and stretcher system give the chairs a unique profile. The upholstery is executed in a small-scale weave textile in burgundy and gold outlined by green dashed lines and small decorative brass tack rosette nail-heads. The backs are finished in a similar brown woven textile. The chairs are sturdy and strong having excellent joinery and craftsmanship by Minton-Spidell artisans. The set is in exceptional, well preserved condition as seen in photos. Minton-Spidell tags are attached on the underside of the chairs. Elegant yet relaxed, this set offers a sophisticated balance between historic form and fresh textile appeal, making it well suited for both classic and transitional interiors. Sold as a set of six chairs. The armchair measures 24" wide, 25" deep, 44" high, and 20" seat height. The side chairs measure 20" wide, 25" deep, 44" high and 20" seat height.
