A vintage silver overlay porcelain espresso or demitasse cup and saucer by Manfred Veyhl and Rosenthal Selb of Germany, dating circa late-1940s to the early-1950s. The white porcelain bodies, in Rosenthal's Rococo-inspired Chippendale pattern, are decorated with a glossy cinnamon brown glaze. The elegant silver overlay work consists of Art Deco leaves, stems, and blossoms with silver bands at the edges, rims, and the cup's foot / handle.
Silversmith Manfred Veyhl specialized in hand-crafted silver overlay decoration from 1930 through the 1950s at his studio, Silberporzellanmanufaktur Plüderhausen, in Baden Württemberg, Germany. Vehyl redecorated colorful porcelain blanks with delicate silver overlays crafted from the highest quality silver.
Both vintage pieces are in very good condition and fully marked on their bases; marks and dimensions follow:
Saucer: 4.5 in. diameter, marked with green Rosenthal / Banhof Selb / Germany / Chippendale over handwritten 77 with Veyhl's red Silverporzellan Manufaktur Plüderhausen anniversary mark.
Cup: 1.75 in. height x 3 in. diameter (at rim), marked with green Rosenthal / Banhof Selb / Germany / Chippendale over Veyhl's red Silverporzellan Manufaktur Plüderhausen anniversary mark.
