Extraordinary Large 1997 Signed Chinese Inside-Painted Glass Snuff Bottle by Xiao Yu
A remarkable statement piece of traditional Chinese artisanry, this monumental snuff bottle is a masterwork of inside (reverse) painting by the artist Xiao Yu. Meticulously completed in the Summer of 1997 (the Year of the Fire Ox), the central rectangular flask features a panoramic "Hundred Beauties" (Baimeitu) scene, a classic motif depicting elegant women in a refined setting. This rare, oversized find is further enhanced by its elaborate carved glass housing, which features majestic reclining horses at the base—traditional symbols of strength and success. The entire piece is presented on its original, custom-fitted black lacquered wood display stand, intricately decorated with hand-painted gold geometric and floral patterns.
Dimensions: 10.5ʺH × 6.5ʺW × 3.25ʺD (Total height with stand).
Condition:
The set is in excellent vintage condition. The internal painting remains exceptionally vivid and flawlessly preserved with no signs of flaking or moisture damage. The hand-carved glass housing, handles, and stopper are fully intact, free of major chips, cracks, or structural repairs. The lacquered display stand is structurally sound, showing only minor, age-appropriate surface wear consistent with its vintage origin.
Exquisitely preserved and signed by the artist, this grand-scale artisan piece is a rare find, ready to bring cultural soul and sophisticated elegance to a fine collection.
