Signed in Hebrew and dated verso. it is all Hand Woven. Esther Bensimon is a native of Argentina. She graduated from the Teacher’s College of Yeshiva University in New York City and immigrated to Israel in 1968. She is held in high regard as both an artist and a human being. Perpetually fascinated by the world of art, Esther Bensimon originally fulfilled her yearning to become a part of it by weaving magnificent wall hangings. She was accepted, early in her career, as a member of The House of Quality, the prestigious Jerusalem artist cooperative where she opened her first studio. It is a prestigious venue with sculpture by David Palombo and artists studios Zelig Segal, Ori Resheff, Avi Biran, Menachem Berman and Hanna Behar Panet amongst others. Today, Esther Bensimon creates, with passion and expertise, exquisite, one-of-a-kind, Challah Covers. Nature’s inherent beauty is showcased beautifully in these gorgeous Covers. It incorporates the folk art imagery used by artists such as Kopel Gurwin with sophisticated Latin American techniques ala Olga de Amaral. Foliage and eaves, most of them indigenous to Jerusalem where she has lived since 1968, play a major role in the creation of these elegant works of art. Leaf imprints are gingerly hand-pressed onto rich, cream-colored linen employing a special technique that has been perfected over the years. Esther then brings to life the myriad of designs, ever present in her vivid imagination, by meticulously painting them on the linen using luxurious, vibrant and shimmering acrylic paint in a wide spectrum of rich colors. She also applies delicate cutouts; fill-in shapes and befitting Hebrew texts to further enhance her unique and stunning Challah Covers. Inspired by her prolific imagination and a fervent desire to create, Esther is constantly in search of fresh and innovative motifs to satisfy her demanding and ever-growing clientele. See less
