Georges Chaudoir (1890 - 1969 ) was a Belgian master tapestry maker and cartoonist who revived the last Brussels high-warp workshop in Schaerbeek , Brussels from 1910. With the active help of his wife Suzanne Perot, Georges Chaudoir is considered the renovator of the art of tapestry . This was made in Belgium but it is the same style and technique as a French Aubusson tapestry. (tapisserie gobelin) Similar in style to the mid century mod work os the studio Jean Lurcat, Mathieu Matégot, Le Corbusier, Jean Picart Le Doux and Marc Saint-Saëns The town of Aubusson in central France was the primary center for this artistic revival. The private atelier there, in collaboration with artists and the Manufacture des Gobelins in Paris, wove many of the most significant 20th-century tapestries. The Maison PINTON workshop was another key player, collaborating with major modern artists like Fernand Léger, Marc Chagall, Alexander Calder and Sonia Delaunay to produce modern tapestries. These makers collectively restored tapestry to its status as a monumental and decorative art form, bringing modern art movements like Cubism, Surrealism, and abstract expressionism into the traditional medium.
