Lithograph on paper. Hand signed and numbered in pencil. Edition of 40. Very good condition. In this striking composition, Giovanni Repossi presents a contemplative landscape reduced to essential forms and bold chromatic contrasts. The upper portion is dominated by a deep golden-yellow sky, set against a dense cluster of green trees rendered with a soft, grainy texture that evokes both natural foliage and an atmospheric veil. Below, a pale, mineral-toned ground—suggestive of stones or an arid terrain—creates a quiet stage for the image’s unexpected central detail. Placed in the foreground, a small square inset introduces a dramatic symbolic element: a bat, its wings fully extended, emerging as a dark and nocturnal presence within the otherwise sunlit palette. This framed motif functions almost like an image-within-an-image, creating a tension between landscape and emblem, daylight and shadow, the visible and the hidden. Repossi’s work balances surreal suggestion with graphic clarity, transforming an apparently serene natural scene into an enigmatic visual meditation. The contrast between the monumental calm of the setting and the bat’s ominous intimacy imbues the print with a subtle psychological charge, inviting interpretations related to memory, mystery, and the intrusion of the irrational into the everyday.
