This inlaid wooden panel reproduces, thanks to the tonal contrasts of the various woods used—walnut, thuja burl, and fruit woods—a domestic genre scene set in an interior. The depiction of the room is richly detailed: lamps, a window with figures looking out and a glimpse of a landscape, crockery on shelves, and a table laden with food. It is also quite lively, with comical overtones, animated by numerous figures—men falling from chairs due to drunkenness, governesses, and dogs—a setting inspired by Flemish genre scenes painted in Northern Europe in the 17th century.

The panel is a Lombard work, entirely handmade by a craftsman cabinetmaker. It dates back to around 1950 and is in excellent condition, polished with shellac. For hanging, we have placed it in a carved and gilded wooden frame. See less
