A rare and sculpturally refined pair of Art Deco bronze bookends, known as “Sit and Push,” created by Paul Silvestre circa 1920. The composition depicts a boy and girl satyr, dynamically posed and rich in movement, reflecting early Art Deco experimentation with mythological themes.
These bookends are a reduced sculptural version of the famous “Miroir d’eau” fountains in Paris and Lucerne, linking them directly to monumental public Art Deco sculpture.
Cast in bronze with a deep brown patina, both pieces are signed Silvestre and bear the foundry marks of Susse Frères, Paris, one of the most prestigious French art foundries of the early 20th century.
