A 'Wassily' chair, designed in the 1920s by Marcel Breuer.
Originally known as the 'B3', the chair was first created in 1925–1926 during Breuer's time at the Bauhaus. The first version was produced by Thonet, followed by Gavina and eventually acquired by Knoll Int.
Considered to be the first chair with a curved metal tube frame, a bicycle served as inspiration for the design. Breuer was fascinated by the lightness and strength of its frame, deciding to incorporate it in furniture design.
Contrary to popular belief, the chair was not designed for Wassily Kandinsky. He admired the design strongly, having Breuer make him a copy of the chair. Later, when Gavina took over production, the name was changed.
The frame is made of steel tubes with a chromed finish. The straps are made of black leather.
This example was produced by Knoll in the 1980s.
The chair remains in very good condition. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
