This is a charming set of 6 Gustavian Swedish style dining chairs that need a complete overhaul to be usable for daily seating. The frames need to be completely disassembled and re-glued. The seats need new webbing, padding, and fabric. Gustavian dining chairs are highly desirable and quite expensive, so the effort would be worth it to someone who wants the look without the huge price tag.
The vintage dining chairs are made of solid wood with Gustavian style oval backs, pierced splats, and beautiful carvings on the top rail. Beautifully turned round tapered legs. The chairs have several layers of older paint that has cracked and chipped authentically. The chairs are unsigned but are likely from the 1960s.
The vintage chairs are in fair condition. All chair frames are loose and wiggly from top to bottom. There were prior DIY attempts to glue the chairs together. Some cracks in the legs. Seat webbing is loose, and seat padding is compressed. Upholstery fabric is stained. The painted finish is chipped and worn, but I like the look. One back splat appears to have been painted recently, so the paint is lighter than the other chairs. Please see photos for more details about the condition of the chairs.
Each chair measures approximately 37” tall, 20” wide, and 15” deep with an 18” seat height.
