"Cavallo" by Miguel Ortiz Berrocal and Bruno Cassinari, Signed Number #1383/2000
Offered for sale is an abstract bronze horse sculpture that is a 1973 collaboration by Miguel Ortiz Berrocal and the Italian sculptor Bruno Cassinari. The work is signed and numbered on base "Cassinari Berrocal #1383/2000". This work is number 1383 from an edition of 2000 published by Galeria Cortina.
Spanish artist Miguel Berrocal (Spanish, 1933–2006) is best known for his interactive sculptural works, which range in scale from the miniscule to the monumental and depict abstract or figurative forms that can be assembled like puzzles. Fascinated from an early age by analytic geometry, science, and drawing, Berrocal quickly turned to sculpture after his schooling. Berrocal’s practice was driven by a strong personal philosophy highlighted by the desire to connect with the viewer through sculptural objects, leading to an analytical, complicated process of study and the construction of touchable works.
Bruno Cassinari (Italian, 1912–1992) was a post-war Italian painter and sculptor influenced by both Cubism and Expressionism. Born on October 29, 1912, in Piacenza, Italy, Cassinari studied fine art under Aldo Carpi and was affiliated with the influential Italian art magazine Current, along with artists Renato Birolli and Ennio Morlotti. In 1949, Cassinari was selected by Pablo Picasso to exhibit work at the Antibes Museum of Art. He continued to achieve artistic success in Venice until his passing.
