So it is a pleasure to receive a call from here in town offering period items. This was a longtime family- owned piece that we just had waxed and polished . Dating in the early 1700s, this so called Queen Anne slant front bureau or desk is a well chosen example. Importantly, the width is only 34 inches, which is a difficult size to find when you're trying to work with a smaller scale room. The interior is quite special and features characteristics only found on the earliest desks. They are :

Deep outboard drawers which flank the pigeon holes above the small drawers.
A central slide which allows access to the top compartment .
Block front small drawers which give interest to the drawer facade .
As you know, later, these desks incorporate yet another long drawer below the slant lid instead of the interior access to papers. See less
