19th C. Chinese Molded Famille Rose Porcelain Snuff Bottle with Stand
A masterful example of late Qing Dynasty craftsmanship, this molded porcelain snuff bottle features a vibrant, high-relief narrative scene. The "famille rose" palette—characterized by opaque overglaze enamels in shades of rose and carmine—depicts a detailed landscape with historical or mythological figures. The neck is accented with a classic iron-red geometric "chevron" border, leading to a metal-mounted stopper with a preserved interior spoon. Accompanied by a custom-fitted hardwood stand, this diminutive work of art represents a time when snuff bottles were essential high-status accessories in Chinese society.
Condition
Good Antique Condition. The bottle is structurally sound with no major chips or cracks to the porcelain body. It exhibits age-appropriate wear to the hand-painted enamels, primarily on the highest relief points of the figures. The underside bears an iron-red four-character apocryphal Qianlong mark, showing characteristic shelf wear to the foot rim. The original metal stopper and wood stand show light, authentic patina consistent with a century of use.
This beautifully detailed snuff bottle offers a rare blend of sculptural narrative and historic charm, making it a sophisticated focal point for any collector of Asian antiquities or fine Chinese porcelain.
