A large silver-plated water tipper that has Aesthetic Movement artistry with owls, herons, butterflies, fans, and flowers in the designs. It’s a spectacular tour de force.
The stand has a large brass double handle. The base has a round place to hold a water goblet (not included). There is so much decoration on the spout, on the handle, on the bases, and on the handle bases. The lid has a fancy finial. The interior has also been silver plated to prevent the base metal from imparting a metallic taste to the water.
The mark RB & Co. is etched on the base of the pitcher. “R.B. & Co." appears as a mark for the Rogers & Brittin Silver Co. (active in the late 19th century) and is sometimes associated with other Rogers-related firms in the 19th-century, such as the Aurora or Derby Silver Plate companies.
Below the manufacturer's mark, is what looks like the word treble plate (another term used for triple plate) and the production number of 02003. There is also a monogram for what appears to read “Dr. L.A.C” on the front of the pitcher.
MEASUREMENTS
The frame - 19 5/8 in (49.8 cm) tall x 9 in (22.9 cm) diameter.
Pitcher – 13 in (33.0 cm) tall x 7 ½ in (19.0 cm) diameter.
Weighs 8 lbs 8.2 oz.
CONDITION
The pitcher can't tip as the knob on the end of a holder on one side of the pitcher, as well as one prong on the frame is broken off. The prong has been saved and is included. The goblet holder is slightly bent downward. There is silver loss, but it still has some shine. There are a few dents on the pitcher's mouth. The pitcher still has a great look for decorative purposes even if it can't rotate. Or you could have it repaired, which would be pretty simple to do.
An absolute tour de force of Victorian craftsmanship, this pitcher is more than just service ware—it is a masterpiece of Aesthetic Movement design that captures the 19th-century obsession with nature and ornate artistry.
