Hand-crafted in clay, it is … Read more A large hand-painted ceramic vase by Irish artist Gabrielle, featuring the Ancient Egyptian Queen Nefertiti. Hand-crafted in clay, it is narrowed oval in shape, measuring 18.5” in height, 12” in width, and 5.5” in depth. It is painted with a brightly colored image of Nefertiti on the front and a green Ankh on the back, both over a black background.
Nefertiti (c. 1370 – c. 1330 BC), meaning “the beautiful one has come”, was queen of the 18th Dynasty of Ancient Egypt, the wife of Pharaoh Akhenaten. After her husband's death, she may have ruled briefly as the female pharaoh before the ascension of Tutankhamun. She became famous after the 20th Century discovery of an ancient bust of her, attributed to the Egyptian sculptor Thutmose, which was used as the model for her portrayal on this vase.
The Ankh (“the key of life”) was an Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic symbol representing life, consisting of a teardrop-shaped key over a T-shaped cross. See less
