This lovely antique Art Nouveau Scottish mahogany wood secretary cabinet in the manner of Charles Rennie Mackintosh is circa 1900. Expertly handcrafted from mahogany wood the cabinet design features contrasting stylized tree and floral motif decoration on the upper cabinet doors and the lower shelf brace. The cabinet has a paneled fall-front desk door that opens to a felt-lined writing surface and reveals a functional interior with letter slots, small drawers, and a prospect door veneered in satinwood. A single lower drawer and an open lower shelf are supported by an elegant, tapering frame and the cabinet retains original ornate brass hardware. The overall design is emblematic of Arts & Crafts and Art Nouveau design of the turn-of-the-century which is characterized by its emphasis on traditional craftsmanship, visible joinery and organic, stylized forms that reference nature. Bloomingdale's handwritten on import label on the backside.
