This antique crock was/is used to produce, what some call, the finest vinegars. The Orleans method, also known as the slow method, is a classic technique for vinegar production that originated in France. The Orleans method is a traditional fermentation process used for producing high-quality vinegar, particularly wine vinegar, through slow fermentation by acetic acid bacteria. This method of wine vinegar making has been used since the Middle Ages. This allows for the vinegar to produce complex flavors. This crock is in excellent condition, no chips, cracks or crazing. It has all its original pieces- jar, lid and spigot. It stands 10" tall x 8.25" at widest. The spigot is made of wood. There is a number 3 stamped on the front, underside of lid is stamped, Made In France. Stamp on underside of jar reads, Made In France, Fait Main and Gres du Berry. A renowned French stoneware company since the 15th century. This piece was created in the 1960s. Beautiful mustard-y color. See less
