A finely balanced porcelain vase by Minton in elegant bottle form, decorated with raised gilt prunus branches standing in relief above the porcelain surface. Turquoise reserves with geometric ornament and delicate floral painting add depth and contrast to the composition.
The design was created by Christopher Dresser for Minton, introducing Japanese decorative principles into British ceramics and redefining late 19th-century artistic design. His work is now regarded as foundational to modern decorative art.
Examples of such Minton vases from this period are held in leading museums such as the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, underscoring their historical and artistic significance.
This is one of Christopher Dresser’s rarest vase forms, distinguished further by an exceptionally rare colour palette, making this vase a unique survival with no known identical counterparts.
