A sense of structure, rhythm and sculptural depth defines this architectural bookcase by Giuseppe Rivadossi. Made from solid Slavonian oak, the piece showcases the designer’s dedication to material and handcraft in a language both functional and poetic.
Rivadossi's approach to furniture is closer to architecture than carpentry. This tall cabinet is divided into three main segments: open shelves at the top, a central section of intricately carved doors, and a plinth-like lower section with smooth panels. The most distinctive element lies in the three upper doors. Each is adorned with a hand-carved geometric relief made of inward-pointing pyramidal forms individually chiselled and symmetrically aligned to create a bold tactile surface. This sculptural articulation is characteristic of Rivadossi’s workshop, where every detail is shaped to engage both the eye and hand. Inside, a grid of small internal compartments and shelves reveals a thoughtful layout for practical storage. The lower unit follows a quieter visual language, with integrated finger pulls and a plain oak grain that offers a grounded counterpoint to the ornate middle tier.
Designed most likely in the 1970s–1980s, the piece reflects Rivadossi’s belief in making 'sacred spaces' through furniture objects intended for quiet contemplation, timeless presence, and harmony with daily life. Ideal for display and storage, the cabinet finds its place in both private libraries and interiors seeking architectural warmth.
