19th-century oil on canvas depicting a traditional larder or pantry scene, executed as a reproduction after a masterwork by Pieter … Read more 19th-century oil on canvas depicting a traditional larder or pantry scene, executed as a reproduction after a masterwork by Pieter Boel, whose original painting is housed in the Prado Museum in Madrid, Spain. The composition features a servant figure surrounded by an abundant still life arrangement including fruit, fowl, game, platters, pitchers, and other pantry elements, rendered in a dramatic and richly detailed manner typical of European still life traditions.
The canvas shows evidence of age, including some older touch-ups, repair (see back) and surface wear consistent with its history. A brass plaque affixed to the frame bears the Roman date MCMXLVII. The painting is housed in a gold gilt wood frame, with areas of burnished red visible beneath the gilding. The frame shows typical age-related wear, including separation at the corners.
A strong decorative and representational work inspired by a recognized European master, offering scale, detail, and historical reference. The painting is stable and suitable for display.
