This beautiful tapestry is a woven reproduction of an early 17th Century world map originally designed by the Dutch cartographer Abraham Ortelius (1528-1622), one of the most prominent cartographers of the 16th Century. The inscription TYPUS ORBIS TERRARUM means A Representation of the World. This map confirms that the Dutch pioneers of the day possessed a growing body of knowledge as to the then known world. This tapestry captures the interest that surrounded the voyages of the 16th and 17th Century Dutch explorers. This tapestry is fully lined incorporating a sleeve along the top for hanging with a Hines hanging rod. Alternatively, this tapestry can be hung with a wooden batten which is a concealed method of hanging.
Composition: Loom Woven
Finish on reverse: This tapestry is fully backed with luxury cotton lining incorporating a sleeve along the top for hanging purposes.
