This tapestry is one of the set of twelve hangings known as The Lucas Months, representing the months of the year. This set was designed by Lucas van Leyden and woven at the Royal Gobelins Manufactory in Paris at the end of the 17th Century. The scene represents the month of December and depicts the seasonal pastime of ice-skating on a frozen lake in the Flemish countryside. A rich border of flowers and corner medallions surrounds the scene. The original masterpiece is at the Chteau de Pau in southern France.</p>This tapestry is fully lined incorporating a sleeve along the top for hanging with a Hines hanging rod. Alternatively, this tapestry can be hung with a wooden batten which is a concealed method of hanging.
Composition: 52% cotton, 48% wool
Finish on reverse: This tapestry is fully backed with luxury cotton lining incorporating a sleeve along the top for hanging purposes.
