Break Apart is a meditation on rupture
and release. Deep teal washes, fractured
textures, and a stark vertical fissure
suggest a moment of separation. A
breaking that is both destructive and
necessary. The painting holds tension
between darkness and light, collapse and
possibility.
Shelly Cook creates richly textured
abstract works that explore the beauty in
surfaces shaped by time, force and
environment. Drawing inspiration from
Cornwall’s rugged coastline, ancient
geology and subtle weathered details, her
work translates tactile memory into
visual form. Layers of colour and material
interplay to evoke the tension between
erosion and renewal, stillness and
movement. Her paintings invite viewers
into a contemplative space where
texture, material and atmosphere
converge, revealing both outer
landscapes and inner terrain.
