Chernow’s expressive, introspective portraits spoke deeply to her.

The work is an original mixed media drawing on paper, likely executed in pastel and chalk with wash. It features a quietly powerful figurative portrait rendered in Chernow’s characteristic muted palette, with subtle surface texture and hand-worked variation that reflect her thoughtful, human approach to portraiture. The piece is signed “Ann Chernow” in the lower right.

This artwork has remained framed and protected for decades and is in excellent condition. It is presented in a vintage frame with glass, which shows light wear consistent with age and complements the character of the piece beautifully.

Our family still owns and cherishes several other works by Ann Chernow, but we no longer have the space to properly display this one. Rather than keep it stored away, we felt it deserved to be enjoyed and lived with by someone who connects with Chernow’s work as much as my grandmother did.

It’s a piece with a quiet presence — contemplative, intimate, and deeply human — and we hope it finds a new home where it can be appreciated in that same spirit. See less
