19th-century French bookcase or large display cabinet crafted in bleached oak, presenting a tall and refined form with clean, understated lines. The upper section features three glass panel doors allowing for generous display, opening to reveal two full size interior shelves and a lower half shelf suited for smaller objects. Evidence of shelf arms in the midsection indicates an earlier shelf configuration, typical of cabinets of this period.
The lower section includes three paneled doors enclosing a single interior shelf for concealed storage. Decorative original French brass escutcheons with peacock-style detailing remain in place, adding subtle ornamentation. Of the six original locks, two still function; we recommend using the skeleton keys as pulls only for ease of daily use.
The bleached oak finish highlights the natural grain of the wood and lends a light, elegant presence suitable for both traditional and more modern interiors. Typical age-related characteristics include visible cracks, stains, and separation of planks, particularly along the sides and at the corners, all consistent with oak cabinetry of this age.
The cabinet has been restored for structural integrity and is strong, stable, and ready for use. It is constructed in upper and lower sections, allowing for easier transportation and installation. Assembled, it is approximately 6.5' wide by just under 8' tall.
