These chairs feature flowing lines and cabriole legs, crafted from high-quality materials such as walnut, mahogany, or beechwood. A label on the chairs indicates that they underwent renovation and repair by Sutter Furniture Co. of San Francisco.

Clover’s Cottage did its research and due diligence on this antique set and conclude that it was hand-carved rather than machine-carved. The leaves and central flower on the chairs are not perfectly mirrored, and the recesses show subtle irregular gouge marks. The depth of the carving also varies organically, rather than being uniformly cut. The edges of the carvings are slightly softened rather than sharply routed, and the scrolls on the chairs taper unevenly, a characteristic of hand tools. The gesso, white chalk and guilting highlight the period from the late 1800's to early 19th century.

Furthermore, there are slight variations in the curvature of the scrolls and worn gilding and paint on the chairs expose the high points naturally. This is consistent with older hand-carved decorative frames of this era.
