The male lion figure rests its paw on … Read more Excellent 1950s, premium-acrylic jade imperial guardian lions; also known as Shishi Lions. The male lion figure rests its paw on top of a ball; while the female lion figure rests her paw on top of a lion cub. These lions are often seen as massive architectural features positioned outside buildings throughout Asia. While originating in Chinese Buddhism, these highly stylized lions are also seen throughout Asia, and are thought to protect against harmful spirits and people.

These detailed and heavy acrylic statues are in excellent condition. The acrylic is clean and shiny, achieving a very realistic appearance of stone. These decorative and spiritual objects can also be used as bookends. The bottoms of the figures are lined in black felt.

Condition is very good. The base of the male lion figure exhibits a white corner compression. Theres no physical damage, but there is a gently discoloration that reads milkier than the rest of the color form.
