This wooden carved oriental figure, circa 1840 or earlier, is a unique piece of art. We believe the figure depicts Enma, which according to Japanese mythology, represents the master of Hell. He is associated with Buddhism and Hinduism. He is considered to be a deity. The figure features a removable head. The bottom has calligraphy writing on it, which could be a signature or message. This is really a fabulous piece.
