Thought to provide a conduit to the celestial plane, the bi disc is always carved of fine jade or stone, shaped by hand to a circular form that represents the heavens in Chinese cosmology.

This contemporary bi disc is carved from a dense hardstone with jade-like translucency and mottled brown color. The surface is carved in low relief with two celestial dragons, swirling and abstracted in the archaistic style of ancient bronze wares. Large characters in ancient script convey a blessing for wealth and success, a traditional idiom and a popular New Year's greeting. See less
