A pair of 19th-century hunting prints titled "Breaking Cover" and "The Death," drawn and etched by Henry Thomas Alkin, commonly … Read more A pair of 19th-century hunting prints titled "Breaking Cover" and "The Death," drawn and etched by Henry Thomas Alkin, commonly known as H. Alken (1785-1851), with colored aquatint and/or hand-coloring in watercolor. Alken was an English painter and engraver primarily known for his caricature work and illustrations depicting sporting scenes. He hailed from a large and distinguished family of sporting artists, and he was a highly skilled etcher and watercolor painter.

Published by I.W. Lairdin London in 1841, these beautiful antique prints are professionally matted and under glass in black lacquered wood frames with light gold leaf trim. The prints are in excellent antique condition with colors still vibrant. On the back of both prints is a framer's label from David Bendann's Fine Art Rooms in Baltimore, Maryland. Baltimore's oldest commercial art gallery, Bendann was founded in 1859 by Civil War-era photographers Daniel and David Bendann. The label is a work of art in itself! Wonderful prints. See less
