A compelling abstract work with beautifully intricate detailing. This piece has a unique and intriguing perspective, from the inside looking out, lending it an air of mystery that really draws you in. Signed, dated, and numbered limited edition 8/9.

Newly re-framed in a vintage burl wood frame, with new soft white matting, new backing, and hanging hardware. Frame has minor wear, etching itself in excellent vintage condition.

Arnold Shives (1943-present) is an accomplished Canadian multi-media artist and master printmaker. He studied at the University of British Columbia, San Francisco Art Institute, and received a masters in painting and sculpture at Stanford. In the 1970s, he shifted his focus from abstract expressionist painting to the printmaking for which he is best known. Inspired by the woodcut technique of Edvard Munch, Shives created his own unique printmaking process using an electric jigsaw to design and cut linoleum pieces that are inked separately from the etching plate. This allowed him to create pieces with color and larger scale in a single press run. An avid mountaineer, the majority of Shives’ work is deeply connected to and influenced by nature. His work has been widely exhibited throughout the US, Canada, Europe, Australia, and Japan. See less
