This graphic Folk Art table-top or wall-hanging penny rug-style quilt in Pop Art colors and design, is hand-sewn and treadle-machine-sewn in period felt and cotton fabrics and 1960's era threads. It was made in Quebec in 1961. The black and red scalloped edges give the rug a distinctive look and is accomplished with admirable workmanship and design. The black field of short-pile shaggy fabric emphasizes the vibrant Pop Art colors of the large circles of the main design. The circles are outlined in hand-sewn borders of contrasting colors. The back is lined with a solid red/orange colored fabric.
This quilt would make an artistic wall hanging for any style room, as well as a decorative table throw. It evokes a happy era of adventurous art and lifestyles.
