The gold-toned back panel gives the piece a warm, ceremonial appearance.

Dimensions: height 58.5 cm, width 43 cm, depth 33 cm.

The figure is made in the tradition of Hina-ningyō and, through the wooden name plaque, refers to the Dōjōji theme (道成寺)—a classical motif from Japanese Nō and Kabuki theatre, closely associated with music, dance, and ritual symbolism. The doll wears richly layered, silk garments and holds ceremonial hand drums with bells. Her serene facial expression and finely finished textiles emphasise a courtly, almost imperial character.

The original sticker label on the display refers to Uekiya Ningyō-ten, a specialised Japanese doll shop located in the Koshigaya Shinmachi shopping street (Saitama). This detail adds valuable context regarding provenance and supports a dating in the second half of the 20th century.

Traditionally, dolls of this kind were displayed around Hinamatsuri (March 3rd, Girl’s Day) as a symbolic wish for health, protection, and prosperity. Today, this piece functions primarily as an exceptional decorative and cultural object, ideal for placement in a display cabinet, on a console, or as a refined statement within an interior.

Condition is good: the doll, textiles, and display case have been carefully preserved, showing only light, age-levant traces. See less
