Bring a touch of French country charm to a kitchen, breakfast room, or farmhouse interior with this impressive hand-painted ceramic rooster from Normandy, crafted circa 1980. Standing over 23 inches tall, the colorful coq gaulois, one of France’s most beloved national symbols, is modeled in a proud crowing stance atop a naturalistic grassy base.
Executed in the Barbotine tradition, the sculpture showcases richly detailed plumage highlighted in vibrant shades of emerald green, deep blue, warm ochre, chestnut brown, and crimson red. The highly glazed surface accentuates the intricate featherwork, expressive facial features, and dramatic sweeping tail feathers, creating a lively and realistic presentation from every angle.
This substantial decorative rooster makes a striking statement displayed on a kitchen counter, buffet, mantel, or open shelf and brings warmth, color, and authentic French character to any interior. The antique-style ceramic figure is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and retains its brilliant hand-painted finish throughout.
