This exceptionally rare pair of armchairs was designed by Emiel Veranneman in 1992 and produced by De Sede in Switzerland. The model reflects Veranneman’s sculptural approach to furniture design, combining controlled volume with a clearly articulated architectural structure.
Each chair is characterized by an egg-shaped upholstered shell, whose leather upholstery is neatly shaped, allowing the form to read as a contained, sculptural volume. The upholstered element is set within a solid wooden frame finished in black lacquer, clearly articulated from the leather shell. This contrast between the rounded white leather form and the angular black-lacquered wooden base creates a dynamic and well-balanced composition. The pair originates from the art collection of the Gemeentekrediet / Crédit Communal (now Belfius), the Belgian banking institution, known for its significant and well-curated corporate collection, and is documented in several publications and exhibitions dedicated to Veranneman’s work.
The armchairs are in good condition, showing minor wear to the leather and wooden elements consistent with age and use. These signs of wear do not detract from the overall appearance or integrity of the design.
