This antique French fauteuil d’encoignure was crafted in walnut circa 1880 and exemplifies the elegant asymmetry and flowing lines of the Louis XV style. Designed as a corner chair, it features a wedge-shaped seat and a rounded horseshoe back with a central vertical splat, allowing it to fit neatly into an encoignure while remaining visually balanced from the front.
The walnut frame retains a warm, time-softened patina and is finely carved with restrained foliate details at the crest, arms, apron, and cabriole legs, which terminate in scrolled feet. The seat and back are upholstered in green leather with gilt tooling, showing wear and surface cracking consistent with age and use, adding to the authentic antique character. Finished with brass nailhead trim, the chair is in goodcondition commensurate with age and use and is ideal for a desk, study, or as a decorative accent in a bedroom or library.
