I am offering an original, antique photo frame from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, made of cast metal (spelter/régule), originally gilded and patinated. The frame is shaped like a small easel. It is richly decorated with floral ornamentation typical of early Art Nouveau: leaves, flowers, and soft, wavy lines. It is a decorative item with a distinct period character, originally intended for displaying portrait photographs in bourgeois salons and studies. Dating and origin: period: approx. 1895–1915 style: late historicism / early Art Nouveau origin: Europe (most likely Central or Western Europe) Material and technique: metal casting (spelt / zinc alloy) gilding and patina (preserved in its natural, authentic condition) rear plate attached with classic tongues standing construction.
Condition:
good to very good, appropriate for the age of the object: natural patina and wear on the gilding, no cracks or structural damage, standing elements and handle preserved, no conservation work. The object has not been aggressively cleaned - the original surface has been preserved.
