The vase is a classic example of Art Nouveau, characterized by sinuous lines and organic floral motifs, which were popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The base is made of iridescent purple glass and displays iridescent shimmers, typical of high-end production of the time.
The exterior decoration is a sterling silver overlay: the motif depicts a stylized iris flower or lily with stems and leaves enveloping the body of the vase, a common design for "silver overlay" vases of the period.
Upon closer inspection, it is clear that part of the floral decoration (now almost entirely lost) must have depicted a stem with a bud on the left.
A small silver border also surrounds the mouth, which gently widens.
Renowned manufacturers of the time often collaborated with silversmiths to create unique pieces like this.
