The designers of these lamps certainly were tuned into the spirit of their moment! The decorated elements positively exude 50s-60s esthetic, and they’re of top quality manufacturing to boot, which you’ll notice when examining the other aspects of these lamps. For instance, everything is made of solid brass and the lamps are quite heavy. Without disassembling the lamps I can’t tell if the decorative elements are made of solid cast brass or white metal; they’re heavy enough to be either. The painted gold squiggles all over those elements are ultimate!
Each lamp was originally factory-lacquered and that lacquer has nicely withstood the elements of the intervening 50 or more years. The few dark spots under the lacquer on one lamp base are probably the result of a workman’s fingerprints prior to the lacquering process, and can be turned to the side. Each lamp is fitted with a three-way standard-sized socket; three-way bulbs are available in a variety of wattages. Both lamps have been completely rewired. The white, cased glass shades shown are new and allow the buyer to use the lamps as table torchieres and give a good diffused light. Alternately, one can buy (or have made) shades of fabric or other materials and rest them on the glass shades.
On either side of a period couch, mega impressive!!
Measurements: about 28 ½ high to the top of the glass shades. Each base has a 6” diameter.
