This table – suitable as … Read more I’m compelled to employ that (slightly) overused term “iconic,” but what’s a fellow to do? This table – suitable as a small coffee table (during The Period coffee tables were far smaller than nowadays) or even a side table – this gem has it all! You’ll note the decorative, solid brass, wonderfully patinated tubes right off the bat. Then your eye will lite upon the gracefully curved supports, then the matched veneer and secondary wood stripe on the top, the oval shape, and finally, those adorable feet! In my many decades of dealing in Art Deco, I can’t recall a better example of stellar American design from The Period. Period!

The circular burn mark is 1 ¼ in diameter; it’s not deep, and perhaps would be responsive to wood bleach. It can also be painted out. You’ll note another very small burn mark about ¼ inch long on the edge near the other larger mark. The curved supports wiggle ever so slightly where they join with the bottom, but the table’s structural integrity is not compromised in the least.

Truly, a “must have” for the advanced collector of American Art Deco! It will make the room, and you can speculate endlessly about who burned the top and under what circumstances…
