Antique 1793 Hand-Colored Aquatint – "Court Garden & Great Marlow" by J.C. Stadler
Acquire a masterwork of Georgian-era topography with this original 1793 hand-colored aquatint etching, titled "Court Garden and Great Marlow." This rare print was published by the esteemed London firm J. & J. Boydell for their monumental series, "An History of the River Thames." It offers a serene 18th-century view of the Thames at Great Marlow, Buckinghamshire, featuring the historic Court Garden estate and the famous wooden bridge of 1789.
The artwork was engraved by the celebrated Joseph Constantine Stadler (1755-1812) after an original work by the Royal Academician Joseph Farington. The aquatint technique provides a soft, watercolor-like wash that perfectly captures the atmospheric light of the English countryside. Rendered in a sophisticated palette of moss greens, earthy ochres, and sky blues, this piece is a quintessential example of the Romantic Landscape movement.
This museum-quality print is beautifully presented in a traditional gilded frame with a deep forest green mat, making it an ideal choice for a Dark Academia study, a formal English Country library, or a curated Aesthetic Movement interior.
