A 19th-century moroccan ceramic jobbana from fez, of traditional form with rounded bowl and tall domed lid surmounted by a knob, originally intended for storing butter
the decoration features polychrome calligraphy in three cartouches, surrounded by flowers and chain-like patterns within circular reserves, set against an off-white engobe ground. The lid displays scrolling ornament with finely detailed floral motifs and stems arranged in geometric reserves.
a vibrant palette of blue, pink, celadon and yellow animates the surface. Signed to the underside "fès al-majzari." a sculptural piece with characteristically rich pattern and colour typical of fez ceramics. Associated period lid. A repair and a stable horizontal crack to the edge of the bowl. Signed underneath
