The lid and base are decorated with raised gold inlaid bands over a finely engine-turned ground. Applied to the lid is a heraldic lion with the latin motto “virtus et spes”(“virtue and hope”), also in 9k gold.

the case opens via a concealed button on the front, revealing a richly gilt interior. The underside of the lid is engraved with the name keith and a series of dates from 1928–1929. The piece is neatly housed in its original cartier retail case.
