About Faïencerie de Pierrefonds
Founded in 1903–1904 in the scenic town of Pierrefonds, the Faïencerie de Pierrefonds — originally known as Faïencerie Héraldique — began under the leadership of Count Olivier Hallez d’Arros. Early on the manufactory attracted artistic talent, and in 1912 ceramist and sculptor Émile Bouillon brought a new creative direction to the workshop. Pierrefonds became known for its richly glazed stoneware (grès) featuring spectacular crystalline and artful enamel effects, evolving through Art Nouveau into refined early 20th-century decorative styles. Many pieces bear distinctive marks such as a helmeted knight between the letters F and H, referring to the company’s original name, Faïencerie Héraldique. Produced in modest numbers with a strong artistic identity, Pierrefonds ceramics are prized today for their expressive glazes, sculptural forms, and their place within France’s decorative arts heritage.
