It features an expansive monograph survey collection of the artworks of the Abstract Expressionist artist Willem De Kooning, with accompanied compelling text by author Harold Rosenberg.

Willem De Kooning ( 1904 - 1997 ) the Dutch born Abstract Expressionist painter and sculptor is known for his " Action Painting " style artworks. De Kooning led the 1950's art world into a new movement known as American Abstract Expressionism. He was part of a group of artists that became known as The New York School in The Mid Century including Jackson Pollock, Lee Krasner, Franz Kline. Arshile Gorky, Mark Rothko, Helen Frankenthaler, Hans Hofmann, Robert Motherwell, and Clyfford Still among others. Artworks by De Kooning are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.

This beautiful landmark volume has been written by the brilliant and influential Modern Art critic Harold Rosenberg, who coined the famous term " Action Painting ". He discusses with understanding and depth De Kooning's approach to painting, his concept of art, and the major preoccupations of his work. The book includes a lengthy interview with the artist, a collection of his important statements, a chronology of his life, and a bibliography. More than 200 reproductions, including paintings, drawings, prints, and sculptures from all stages of the artist's long and productive career, present the richest and most comprehensive visual documentation of De Kooning's extraordinary achievement.

The rare out of print 1st edition extra large format Mid Century Modern art book measures 13 1/4" W X 12 1/4" H X 1 1/2" D, with 296 pages. It features 226 lithograph print illustrations, including 65 plates in full color and 3 multi-page center fold out illustrations, and a list of plates.
