This impressive mid-century ceramic vase was produced by the celebrated Accolay pottery workshop in Burgundy, France, circa 1950s–1960s. It features a richly textured crackle glaze with a dense tessellated pattern and an elegant rounded body accented by sculptural double handles.
The underside is signed “Accolay,” initialed “B.A.” (attributed to André Boutaud, co-founder of the Accolay workshop), and numbered 26. Standing 29 cm tall, the vase has a strong sculptural presence and reflects the experimental, artisanal approach that defines Accolay ceramics.
A highly collectible piece ideal for lovers of French mid-century ceramics, studio pottery, and organic modern interiors.
About Accolay
The Accolay pottery workshop was founded in Burgundy, France, in 1945 by André Boutaud, Louis Dangon, Slavik Paley, and Raudé, following their training under ceramist Alexandre Kostanda. Established in a former factory in the village of Accolay (Yonne), the studio became known for its experimental, handcrafted ceramics. In its early years, Accolay also produced ceramic jewelry and accessories that were notably used by Christian Dior for his “New Look” collections, before gaining international recognition for its distinctive mid-century studio pottery.
