Attributed to an Ottoman Turkish workshop, Turkey, circa 1880–1920. This large embroidered tapestry is composed as a mihrab prayer-arch hanging, with stylized columns framing a scalloped niche densely filled with floral arabesques and scrolling vinework, above an architectural register of domes, pavilions, cypress forms, and courtyard walls that evokes late Ottoman garden and mosque imagery. The decoration appears worked in polychrome surface embroidery with substantial metal-thread couching for the circular highlights, executed on a pale plain-weave foundation, and finished with a deep velvet border; the later lined reverse fitted with metal hooks indicates adaptation for wall display as an Islamic devotional textile or interior furnishing. The colored yarns present as wool and/or cotton rather than uniformly silk, while the reflective accents are consistent with metal-wrapped thread, a combination frequently encountered in Ottoman embroidered prayer hangings and related Turkish mihrab textiles made for domestic interiors.
