Comes from a rare First Limited Edition art folio published by Skira in Geneva, Switzerland in the 1960s. Signed in the print. Printed on one side of high quality paper. Numbered 3 at the lower right corner, on the border. Detailed. Rich colors. Excellent condition - minor edge wear, never framed.

Bazaine is one of the most acute theorists of postwar French painting and one of its finest practitioners. The sureness and precision of his craftsmanship, and his perfect control over the often elaborate process of composition, are allied to a fine sense of style. Every sensation, whether arising from observation of the external world or from the inner world of memories and emotions, is subordinated to the necessities of style. Reality for Bazaine is something that has to be sought out and mastered, not once for all but again and again. Painting thus enables him to rediscover in the present his experience of the past, and to enrich it by the continual interaction between visual impressions and an inner life which, as the artist has said, "reaches down to the pure rhythmic motifs of being."
