Comes from a rare First Limited Edition art folio published by Skira in Geneva, Switzerland in the 1960s. Signed in the print. Printed on one side of high quality paper. Numbered 1 at the lower right corner, on the border. Detailed. Rich colors. Excellent condition - minor edge wear, never framed.

Bissiere belonged to an earlier generation than that of the painters who came to the fore after 1945, but he followed up a similar line of research. The color, light and forms of his paintings seem to evoke something known and familiar; there is a hint of naturalistic inspiration. But there is a new poetry here because the original inspiration has been transformed by a sense of style based on an intelligent assimilation of the Post-Impressionism and Cubism. In the result his pictorial language is intensely personal, independent of visual appearances and always controlled by a rational, Cartesian norm. It is in the best French Tradition. See less
