Signed lower right, in gouache, 'Herb Saylor' for Herbert Saylor (American, 1916-1991) and painted circa 1945.
Art educator Herbert Saylor first studied art at the Albright Art School and Buffalo State College. He subsequently attended Syracuse University and Stanford University, where he received his doctorate. Prior to joining the Army during World War II, he taught art in Port Chester, New York. After returning from the war, Saylor taught at Merritt College in Oakland, California where he served as head of the art department.
